Tell us about yourself!
Hi :), I am Emily Gray, mum of 3 + 2 bonus! 35 years old, born in London, raised in Rotterdam, studied in Amsterdam. Lived an island life with my family for a few years where we could enjoy family life to the fullest. Currently acclimatising to a slower life, just outside of Amsterdam.
I started my business in 2011, because I found there was a complete lack of kids clothing expressing calmness, quality and warmth. That’s where the idea for Gray Label was born: I wanted to create a stylish, ecological and unisex label in which the purity of a child could emerge best. Nowadays our lines consist of high-quality, unisex and minimal essentials made of the softest ecological GOTS certified cotton.
What is your connection to Abel?
I first connected with Abel when I received a wooden bottle (Abel’s original fragrance – Vintage ’13) in the shop, with the sweetest note from Frances. That’s when I became aware of the brand and the story behind it. It turned out there was a lot in common between our brands; ones that create pure products that enhance, rather than cloud the wearer’s personality.
More recently, I’ve been working very closely with the team at Abel on something… more about that later!
What is your favourite fragrance and how does it make you feel?
I’m desperate to tell you, but I can’t…. yet.
What is inspiring you at the moment?
Lot of things…Daily things, such as cycling around the canals in Amsterdam early mornings. My kids. Interior… We just moved to a new house and to get inspired, we went to a lot of vintage/ antique markets – love it! City trips… Gray Label went to New York in February to join the Playtime Fair – always inspiring – wow what a concrete jungle full of life, new bars and restaurants! Japan is on my wish list as next inspiring trip :-).
